Alexander Lawrence Baker was born 5 April 1792 in Surry County, North Carolina.  His parents were Nicholas Fulton and Lucy Lawrence.  The family moved to Georgia during the land rush.  They were very unlucky in the drawing and drew only black beans.

While they were in
Georgia, Alexander served in the War of 1812 against Great Britain and the Indians.  He entered the service in August 1833 as a private.  He served in Capt. William Ford's Company in Major William Alexander's Battalion under the command of Brigadier General John Floyd of the Georgia Militia.  Alexander served for a term of six months or more and was discharged in 1814 in Millersville, Georgia.

While in
Georgia, Alexander met and married Sarah Wilson.  She was born 5 April 1797 in Gilford, North Carolina to Richard and Margaret Wilson.  Sarah and Alexander were married 25 April 1814 in Athens, Clark County, Georgia.  Their first child, Wilson Washington Baker, was born in Clark County.

All the Baker family moved to
Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.  Alexander and Sarah had a second son, Nicholas Fulton Baker, II, born in Alabama.  While in Alabama, Alexander's father died.  Alexander and Sarah moved their small family to Franklin, Williamson County Tennessee.  Three more children were born there before the family moved to Hillsboro County, Tennessee.  Three more children were born there making a total of eight children in the Baker family at that time.

Alexander and family left
Tennessee in June 1837 going into the Republic of Texas and settling in San Augustine County.  Alexander made an Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of Texas and was issued a land grant for 1280 acres of land.  Another son was born after they arrived in Texas.  Alexander died 16 August 1840 and is buried on his land.  Sarah died in 1845 and is buried beside her husband.
