Martha Elizabeth
Chilcoat
was
born
in
Talledega,
Alabama
on
the
22
February
1843
to
Comodore
C.
Chilcoat
and
Malinda
Yeager.
Mattie,
as
she
was
called
by
family
and
friends,
was
two
years
old
when
she
moved
to
Texas
with
her
family.
She
lived
with
her
parents
on
a
farm
south
of
Hallsville
before
marrying
Henry
Clay
Kimerling
on
the
30
June
1868.
She
became
the
mother
of
five
children
born
in
Texas.
Left
a
Confederate
widow
in
1901,
Mattie
received
a
pension
based
on
her
husband's
service
in
the
16th
Texas
Cavalry.
Mattie
died
on
the
22
October
1922
in
Longview,
Texas;
she
was
buried
at
Gum
Springs
Cemetery.
