Henry L. Ewing was born in Texas in 1835, thus he was too young to actually fight for Texas independence.  However, he lived his entire life in Texas and was proud to be a part of its growth.  He served in the War Between the States for four years.  The last years of Henry’s life were spent in the Texas Confederate Home in Austin.  There he died on 29 December 1924; burial was in the Texas State Cemetery in the Confederate Veterans section.
