Anthony Foster Gray was the son of James Gray (1758-1820) and Martha Foster (c. 1762-c.1832) and was born in Washington County, Kentucky on the 6 May 1798.  He married Lucinda C. Shannon in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee about 1823.  Anthony received a Headright Certificate from the Republic of Texas by living in San Augustine County, Texas on 2 March 1836.  He received a league and a labor or land – 4,605 acres.

Anthony was a merchant, farmer, tax payer and citizen of  Texas.  He passed away on the 8 April 1877 in Kaufman County, Texas and is buried in the Wilson’s Chapel Cemetery south of Kaufman,Texas.
