MRS. AMANDA CAROLINE

Amanda Caroline was born in Georgia on the 10 April
1810. She is on the 1830 Dallas County,
Alabama census with her husband, Winford Harris. Winford died circa 1833, leaving Amanda with
three children under the age of five years, one boy and two girls.
Amanda received a Third Class Headright on 30 December 1839
from the Republic of Texas, Washington County Board of Commissioners. She later secured land in Denton County for
which the survey date was 22 September 1847 and the final patent date was 18
September 1857.
On 4 December 1843, Amanda married William J. Jackson, one
of the original commissioners of the town of Brenham, when the town was first
established about 1844.
Amanda was a thirty-year resident of Hill County. She died there in November 1855 and is buried
at Scott’s Chapel near Hillsboro, Texas.
