ROBERT HOOKER
Born 1804 in Tennessee
Died 25 December 1867 in Texas

Robert Hooker, born in Tennessee in 1804, was the son of William Hooker.  In 1820, the William Hooker family was living in Franklin County, Alabama.

When Robert Hooker was 21 years old, he married Anne Green of Lawrence County, Alabama on 19 February 1825.
The marriage bond was co-signed by A. E. White.

Their first child, William Noland Hooker, was born in 1828, followed by James D., Leander, and Leroy.
Their first daughter was born in 1836 and she was named Susan, probably for Robert’s mother.  Another daughter was born in 1839, and she was named Nancy Catherine.  She was the last child born in Alabama.

Robert Hooker paid a poll tax in Liberty County, Texas in 1840.
He probably made a trip to the Republic and went back for his family that included six children, the oldest being 13 years old, William N.  They arrived early in 1841 and settled in the northern part of Liberty County that became Tyler County in 1846.  The rolling hills of their new home were green with virgin timber, and the many spring-fed streams produced an abundance of flowers.

But frontier life was harsh.
Nancy was only two years old and Anne Hooker, age 34, was expecting her seventh child.  Another little girl was born 22 December 1841, and she was named Margaret Anne.  What a sad Christmas!  Anne Hooker died, leaving Robert with seven children.

Robert Hooker moved his family to Polk County where they lived in the booming community of Moscow.
He soon married a widow, Easter Mary Hardin Clements.  They had two children, Robert H. and Mary Hooker, and Easter was a good mother to Anne’s children.

When Polk County was organized, Robert Hooker became a Justice of the Peace, and he was elected the sheriff in 1858.
He served in the Militia during the Republic and was a member of the Annexation Convention.  He was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge Number 102 at Moscow.

Robert Hooker died 25 December 1867, twenty-six years after his wife, Anne Green, died at Christmas.
His daughter, Margaret Anne, married Fielding (Buck) Scroggins, son of Phillip and Charity Vardeman Scroggins, on 28 February 1858.
