RICHARD HOOPER
Born 29 May 1783 in Lunenburg County, Virginia

 

Richard Hooper was born May 29, 1783, in Lunenburg County, Virginia, the eldest son of Obediah Hooper, Jr. and Sally Gates.


He married Isabells “Ibby” Straw on December 23, 1806 in Georgia.


Richard went to Shelby County, Republic of Texas in February 1836.
  He enlisted in the Republic of Texas Army as a Commander of a company of cavalry men from San Augustine.  Captain Hooper served from July 6, 1836 until he was honorably discharge on October 6, 1836.


He attended the First Congress of Texas as a representative from Shelby County.
  He was elected county surveyor and surveyed the first thirteen counties of Texas.
